{the colors of happiness} a best friend

Photography by Stephanie Rausser.

I wish I was a dog person. Really. And when I see pictures like this one especially, it makes me want to run off to the pet store and get an adorable fur ball to cuddle with. But I don’t know why, I have never been a dog kinda girl. We had dogs when I was little, but I was never into them. Maybe because they were officially my dad’s dogs – my dad is a hunter (I know!) and he mostly had hunting dogs. But we also had some sheep and a goat and a little hamster, and I have so many happy memories of me and my siblings playing with them, feeding them.

Now that we have the girls, I am longing for a little furry best friend for them. I think it’s important for little ones to grow up around animals. Maybe not a dog, I would feel bad having a dog stuck in our New York apartment….but we’re thinking a little rabbit, maybe :) Unless you guys have any other suggestions as to what we should get? Anybody living in an apartment with a pet?

A rabbit would be a great choice! My daughter has been trying to talk me into letting her have one, we already have 3 chickens, 2 dogs and 3 fish (and 3 boys and 1 husband). :0) I had a rabbit long ago and he was a ton of fun so I have a feeling we will be adding one soon! Thanks for featuring a couple of my toys, I have a new great blog to follow now!

This is the cutest post! I just love that poochy with the balloons- I may have to go home and tie a bunch to my dogs, just for cuteness’ sake- though I’m sure it’ll be short lived. :-) Rabbits are very sweet- I love a good rabbit. Cats make good apartment pets too, and there are even some lower energy dogs that just need an afternoon walk and a couple of potty breaks to be happy. Best of luck finding the perfect pet for your family!

Rag Doll cats are great for apartment living, very affectionate & cuddly the best cats for this lifestyle as they are note ant to go outside. Also they ate gorgeous looking!

Last line should have read are gorgeous looking. Would love to blame it on predictive text but actually think it was me being clumsy!

Had bunnies twice… The first one was great. Even potty trained, but he liked to chew wires and pulled out strands from the carpet. The second one was a biter. Sadly both had to go to homes with yards. Cats have proved best for me. Contrary to popular notions, they are affectionate. Have had many pets, lizards, rats (quite nice really), marmosets, dogs, birds, fish, etc., but cats – well cats ;-)….
